More about ECZ
An Act of Parliament established the Examinations Council of Zambia (ECZ) in 1983 to set and conduct examinations and award certificates to successful candidates. Before this enactment, the Ministry of Education and Culture under the Examinations Section used to conduct the examinations. After the enactment, the section continued to perform the function of conducting the examinations while simultaneously developing an institutional framework and job descriptions.
The full launch and operationalisation of the Examinations Council of Zambia was in 1987 as a semi-autonomous public institution (Parastatal). Prior to the establishment of the Council, the University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate in the United Kingdom was the examining and awarding body.
The syndicate’s examinations catered for many countries and consequently, it was not easy for such examinations to reflect the needs of Zambia. The country was subject to the curricula, syllabi and regulations of the syndicate with little say in the general policy of the syndicate examinations. In view of this, it became necessary to reach a decision to localise School Certificate examinations. Consequential to this was the need to develop capacity in the construction, administration and marking of examinations. This gave rise to the establishment of the Examinations Council of Zambia.
The main functions of the Council as stipulated in the Examinations Council of Zambia Act, No. 15 of 1983 are to:

Advantages of ECZ Exam Past Papers
Using exam past papers for the ECZ (Examinations Council of Zambia) can provide several advantages for students preparing for Zambian examinations. Here are some of the key benefits:
Familiarity with Exam Format: ECZ exam past papers give students an opportunity to become familiar with the format and structure of the actual exams. By practising with past papers, students can understand the types of questions asked, the time constraints, and the overall layout of the exams.
Understanding Question Patterns: Past papers allow students to identify recurring question patterns or topics that are frequently covered in the exams. This helps them focus their preparation on important areas and allocate time accordingly.
Improved Time Management: Practicing with past papers helps students develop effective time management skills. By experiencing the time constraints of the actual exams, students can learn to allocate their time wisely and answer questions more efficiently.
Increased Confidence: Solving past papers under exam-like conditions can boost students’ confidence levels. As they become familiar with the exam format and practice answering questions, they gain confidence in their abilities and reduce anxiety about the upcoming exams.
Identifying Weak Areas: By using past papers, students can identify their weaker subject areas or topics that require further study. This helps them focus their revision efforts on specific areas that need improvement.
Improving Answering Techniques: Exam past papers allow students to practice their answering techniques and develop effective strategies for different types of questions. They can learn how to structure their answers, use appropriate vocabulary, and present their thoughts in a clear and concise manner.
Evaluation and Feedback: After attempting past papers, students can evaluate their performance and assess their progress. They can identify areas where they excelled and areas that need further attention. This self-assessment helps them refine their studying techniques and improve their overall performance in the exams.
